| 1990’s
we see the waif look hit the magazine ads. Since that time over the last
10 years the media has glorified thinness and malnutrition and held it
a a new standard for young people to attain.

80% of American women are dissatisfied with their appearance. We need
to keep in mind that many models, television and movie stars struggle
to maintain these starved body weights.
Average fashion model is 5’9” to 6’
tall and 115 pounds.
The average woman is 5’4” and weighs 142 pounds

The research from St. Paul, MN states “The standard
of female beauty has become more narrowly defined and restrictive making
it nearly impossible to be thin enough, fit enough and young enough…Society
keeps moving back the finish line ensuing that most will never obtain
the unrealistic ideal.”
The moving finish line in the book of Ecclesiastes is
like "chasing after the wind."
Most of my clients will admit to me that if they get
to the weight goal that they really wanted they would still not be happy.
Negative body image is a common challenge among people
with eating disorders. Examine what influences your body image. Decide
to invest in building a strong character and seek to know who you really
are. You are someone with unique and special talents, abilities and qualities.
Look inside because beauty is not only skin deep.
